The handset enables radio communication between the mobile police patrol vehicle and main control panel. The handset is operated in connection with a radio installation and enables besides normal voice communication, the output of an identifier according to a standardized data exchange procedure Radio Message System (English RMS = German FMS) introduced in Germany to identify users. In the opposite direction, the RMS handset can receive tactical instructions from the main control panel.

The RMS handset HA222-STD consists of the actual handset with spiral cable and vacant receptacle. The spiral cable is plugged directly to the radio equipment to be supplied with power. It is easy and quick to exchange RMS handsets without having to carry out complicated installations or disassemblies. The handset is of modular design.
The handset matches all BOS radio equipment: FuG7b, FUG8b-1 and FuG9b/c, and is plugged into the radio equipment's handset jack. The K line leading from the RMS handset HA221 / HA222 that is used to release emergency calls, shall be detached if radio equipment with an occupied K contact is used.
The RMS telegram muting closes the audio path when the Barker words are recognized in the data signals during telegram evaluation.
